In this detailed analysis, Elevator World highlights that China manufacturing excellence is alive and well, something we are well aware of in Australia given the incredible demand for our resources and strength of our currency.
They point out that the worlds leading lift manufacturers have been enjoying the benefits of the high quality efficient Chinese manufacturing for decades. Schindler started in 1980, Otis in 1984 and that by the early 1990 all the major manufacturers were working in China.
The lift manufacturers are all doing well, exporting and producing incredible numbers of lift units.
For comparison, it is estimated that we have installed around 50,000 lifts in Australia. China produces more lifts every 3 months, than we have done since the 1900’s. China has now put into service more than 1,000,000 lifts.
It is estimated that China manufactured more than 40% of the worlds elevators and escalators in 2007 and nearly 50% in 2008.
With volumes and capacity like this, it is clear that the Chinese know how to do lifts very well.
It is interesting to note that the historical manufacturer and exporter of lifts, Italy, is still competitive but that the Italians lead is now slipping.
